Who we are
Our Founder, John Aellig, M.Ed
He brings a wealth of experience and a passion for education to East Side Academic Services. With a strong foundation in science education and interdisciplinary learning, John has dedicated his career to empowering students from diverse backgrounds to achieve their full potential.
John earned his M.Ed. in Interdisciplinary Education from the University of Vermont, with a focus on Student Affairs and International Education, and a B.S. in Secondary Education with a concentration in General Science from the University of Rhode Island. His professional journey has taken him across the globe—from teaching science in Rhode Island, to providing English education in Japan, and mentoring refugee students in Vermont.
As the founder of East Side Academic Services, John draws on over a decade of experience in both classroom instruction and educational leadership. His background includes teaching career exploration to middle school students, mentoring new teachers, and pioneering restorative practices to foster positive school communities. John’s innovative approach to education is also informed by his time as a residence director, program advisor, and director of training for educational organizations.
At the college level, John has held diverse leadership roles that underscore his commitment to student growth and success. At Landmark College, a premier institution dedicated to students with neurodiversity, including autism and ADHD, he supported students in navigating their residential campus experience while collaborating holistically to enhance their academic achievement. Additionally, he contributed to fostering student success and community engagement at Plymouth State University, Castleton State University, and Green Mountain College, promoting both academic excellence and social development.
These roles in higher education provided John with firsthand experience in navigating the challenges of student life, designing programs that promote academic success, and cultivating inclusive, thriving communities. His college-level work informs East Side Academic Services' approach to helping students transition seamlessly into postsecondary education, with a focus on readiness and resilience.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, John’s global travel experience—from Japan to Cambodia—has enriched his perspective and deepened his commitment to cultural competence in education. Whether helping a struggling student master a challenging subject or guiding families through complex educational pathways, John’s mission is to deliver innovative, compassionate solutions that pave the way for lifelong success.
At East Side Academic Services, John’s vision is clear: to create transformative learning opportunities that empower every learner to thrive.
